Scholarships for First Year AUBG Students

ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013

Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and potential for future performance. Some donors give preferences to students who demonstrate leadership, extracurricular involvement, and community service, or are enrolled in a particular major. Named scholarships are awarded in addition to financial support offered by AUBG. Only students applying for financial aid are eligible.

Albanian Scholarship

Up to 10 scholarships of $2,000 each are available to incoming students of Albanian descent from Albania, Kosovo, and Macedonia, based on need. Scholarships are for the first year of study.

America for Bulgaria Foundation Distinguished Scholarship

Twenty-five full and seventy-five partial scholarships (30% of tuition) are available for first year Bulgarian students with high academic potential measured by their SAT scores. The scholarships are for the four-year course of study at the University.

American Foundation for Bulgaria Scholarships

One scholarship of $2,500 is for an entering student of Bulgarian origin, residing in one of the former Soviet Republics. One scholarship of $2,500 – for an entering student of Bulgarian origin, residing in the U.S. Scholarships shall be awarded based on merit and academic excellence. The scholarships are made available through an agreement between AUBG and the American Foundation for Bulgaria. The mission of the Foundation is to support, encourage, and promote excellence in education, natural sciences, culture, and humanities. They invest in young people who demonstrate interest in various areas of science to further develop their skills and knowledge and thus, help them to become the best professionals in their field.

AUBG Presidential Scholarship

We want AUBG to continue to be the institution of choice for the very best students. Therefore, we provide full or partial tuition scholarships for eight semesters of study at AUBG for a Bachelor’s degree. No separate application is required.

  • Full Tuition Scholarship
    • Top students whose SAT scores place them among the top SAT test takers.
    • One scholarship per school to a student in the top 5 graduating class in one special partnership school in Belarus, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
  • Partial Tuition Scholarship
    • One student per school that AUBG will select among all the applicants from a special partnership school in Belarus, Mongolia, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
Jan Protogerov Distinguished Scholarship

Seven 3,000 BGN scholarship for the first year of study are available for Bulgarian students at AUBG with high school GPA of 5.00 or above, and great financial need.

Marianne Keler Distinguished Scholarship

Three $5,000 scholarships for the first year of study are available for Bulgarian students based on need who meet the median SAT score of the University.

Metcalf/Ramsden Endowed Scholarship

One $2,250 scholarship for the first year of study is available for first year students who have demonstrated financial need, and are students of considerable promise in terms of their academic accomplishments, leadership abilities, and personal character.

Michael Iovenko Endowed Scholarship

In honor of an outstanding Bulgarian/American, two scholarships of $1,500 each for the first year of study are awarded to Bulgarian first year students based upon academic promise, character, leadership skills, and service to others. Eligible students are identified by the Scholarship Committee. No separate application is required.

Open Society Institute (OSI) Full and Partial Scholarship

Participating countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Kosovo, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. No separate application is required.
There are Full and Partial (30% of tuition) scholarships available.

Raiffeisen Bank Bulgaria Distinguished Scholarship

Four scholarships of $2,500 each for the first year of study are available for Bulgarian students based on both merit and need. Eligible students are identified by the Scholarship Committee based on their application and financial aid form.

William Porter Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship of $1,500 for the first year of study is available to Bulgarian students based on academic excellence and active participation in sport activities. Eligible students are identified by the Scholarship Committee. No separate application is required.

Zamphiroff Endowed Scholarship

Four $2,500 scholarships per year for two years are available for Bulgarian students with a minimum SAT score of 1200 (Critical Reading and Math). The students are eligible based on financial need as evaluated at the time of admission. The student must intend to study Economics at AUBG and work in Bulgaria for at least 5 years after graduation. Awards are made in the form of an interest-free loan that will be forgiven at the end of the fifth year.
